Commitment to Human Rights

Sysco believes all people deserve to work in a safe environment with fair treatment. Our dedication to responsible sourcing is unwavering. We will continuously improve our processes to fulfill our commitment.

Sysco is unwavering in its belief that all people deserve to work in a safe environment with fair treatment and equal opportunities to succeed. This is an integral part of our company values. Any act of human trafficking, slavery, forced labor, or child labor within Sysco’s supply chain is unacceptable and, if identified, will be promptly addressed in compliance with our policies and procedures.

Our Values

OUR COMMITMENT

We expect all our suppliers globally to uphold the highest standards of human rights as outlined in Sysco’s Supplier Code of Conduct (SCOC). There are serious consequences to suppliers if an audit finds critical issues, including suspending or cancelling an agreement to pack Sysco-branded products. Sysco has and will stop purchasing products from companies that do not comply with our SCOC.

LEADING THE INDUSTRY

Sysco’s commitment to preserving human and labor rights is far-reaching. For nearly 15 years, Sysco has implemented an industry-leading Social Responsibility Program that, among other things, requires all suppliers that produce Sysco Brand products in high-risk countries, including Asia, Latin America and Africa, to undergo third-party annual audits.  Details about our program can be found here and are included in our sustainability report.

Social Responsibility Program

Actions We're Taking

Sysco is committed to continuously improving its social responsibility auditing program to address new and emerging human rights challenges.

  • Sysco is evaluating third-party partners to support a comprehensive review of our existing policies and develop a long-term strategy to further strengthen our approach to ensuring human rights compliance globally.
  • Within our Sysco Brand Social Responsibility audit program, we have expanded the period of time within which unannounced audits may occur from 30 days to 90 days. Auditors will arrive unannounced at a facility to complete an audit during the 90-day timeframe.

Actions We've Taken

For nearly 15 years, Sysco’s U.S. and Canadian operations have operated under an industry-leading Social Responsibility Program. Sysco cancels or suspends agreements with suppliers that violate our Supplier Code of Conduct.

  • June 2023: Sysco terminated all contracts with PSSI, a third-party sanitation company found to have hired minors in the United States.
  • December 2023: We suspended purchases from Chishan Group after allegations of forced labor in their facilities.
  • January 2024: Sysco suspended all purchases from Dalian Haiqing Foods after allegations of forced labor in their facilities.
  • July 2024: We expanded our use of a software platform that houses the most widely used social responsibility audit. This allows us to review and analyze supplier audits across our global businesses and meaningfully increases our access to information regarding suppliers that undergo these audits and are not subject to our social responsibility program.
  • Previous actions: Sysco banned shrimp packers, processers, and suppliers of Sysco-branded products from using “peeling sheds” after learning of the actual and potential risk of human rights violations.
