Sysco Gives Fleet the Green Light for New Fuel System
Did you know that converting one truck in the Sysco fleet to the new dual fuel system is like removing the exhaust emissions of 63 cars?

Incorporating a cutting-edge system that uses diesel to start a truck's engine and liquefied natural gas to keep it running, Sysco has successfully converted almost 100 trucks in Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas.

Committed to seeing its environmentally friendly plan implemented nationally, Sysco will turn its attention to its truck in the Atlanta, Phoenix and Denver metro areas, and has even put into motion a program that will replace its trucks' diesel-fueled refrigeration units with cryogenic ones.

These C02-based units are quieter, run on fewer parts and cool three to four times faster than current refrigeration components. Taking the first step, Sysco has already tested the new unit in one of its trucks, and will move to modify its fleet. "It's just the right thing to do," say Vice President of Distribution Services Gary W. Cullen. And that makes us all breathe a little easier.
